Georgia O’Keeffe’s Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico, is a unique and beautiful wedding venue. If you love wedding venues that embrace the natural beauty of the southwest and have an historic and artistic background, then you’ll love a Ghost Ranch wedding.
First of all, there is location. Ghost Ranch sits within a stunning canyon with tall red rock walls that jut towards the sky. From certain viewpoints you can see the surrounding mountains, including the iconic flat-topped mesa Pedernal. The desert beauty is present everywhere you go and everywhere you see.
Along with that, you have the old traditional New Mexican architecture. True adobe casitas with wood beams and classic archways that make you feel like you’re back in time to when O’Keeffe still lived here.
And then there is that. If you’re familiar with Georgia O’Keeffe and her connection to the southwest, and particularly this little part of northern New Mexico called Abiquiu, then you’re also familiar with the landscape and her penchant for capturing it. Ghost Ranch is therefore the perfect wedding venue for weddings with a southwest flair.
An Intimate Ghost Ranch Wedding at Casa del Sol
The wedding ceremony featured in this post took place at Casa del Sol, an adobe casita on a private location in Ghost Ranch, with a view of Pedernal and the surrounding mountains beyond the couple and the jagged rocks of the canyon just behind the building. Another lovely spot to have a wedding ceremony is at The Labrynth, which boasts a direct view of one of the iconic red rock formations of Ghost Ranch. This couple chose to honor their venue choice with lovely little desert details, like small cacti in terra cotta pots, animal skulls, and dead desert plants. Their top priority was to highlight the beauty of the landscape with their wedding photos at Ghost Ranch, and we happily delivered! Sunset in Ghost Ranch is top notch.
A Wedding Reception at Ghost Ranch
Although this was a somewhat intimate wedding with fewer than 50 guests, their reception was beautiful and so much fun with more desert plant details, candles and twinkle lights, an open mic for toasts, and lots of dancing! The small reception hall had views of the sunset in the surrounding landscape out its big windows and plenty of room for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re inspired to plan a Ghost Ranch wedding, I would love to capture it! Reach out to check on my availability!
