Shelby and Josh wanted a very classic Santa Fe wedding at La Fonda on the Plaza. They are a naturally chic couple who love to plan things, so I knew everything would be on point and beautiful for their wedding day. At the same time, they are two people who are down to earth, love to travel and enjoy their people, and wanted their wedding day to be centered around each other and those who were there with them. I absolutely loved working with them and watching their visions unfold.
The Details:
Keeping with a classic and chic angle, the florals were all eucalyptus greens and white florals. The signage and other details leaned heavily on black and white. Their invitation suite featured a simple greenery design over a soft pink. As for their attire, Shelby wore a perfectly tailored wedding dress by Grace Loves Lace with a low back and a long veil, while Josh wore a fitted black suit and bow tie. It was like they were made for these clothes, made for an old classic movie, made for each other.
First Look at La Fonda on the Plaza:
I love using this classic staircase at La Fonda on the Plaza for a bride and groom’s first look. There is beautiful natural light coming in from the skylight above, the couple is surrounded by white adobe walls, complemented by the gorgeous tile and wooden beams and the modern black iron railing. At the same time, it can be a cozy and private little nook for the couple before we get into the craziness of the rest of the wedding day. The view of Shelby and Josh from above is one of my favorite wedding couple’s portraits I have ever taken!
La Fonda Wedding Ceremony on La Terraza Overlooking the Santa Fe Cathedral:
The most iconic spot at La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe is on La Terraza, or “The Terrace,” so it makes sense that this is their designated spot for wedding ceremonies. Santa Fe’s Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi (which the entire Santa Fe Plaza is built around) is the main backdrop of La Terraza, while the terrace itself is the classic New Mexico adobe architecture. So you really get big Santa Fe vibes here. Shelby and Josh had a gorgeous arch made of greenery and white florals by Artichokes and Pomegranates and other than that relied on the natural beauty of the setting for their ceremony decor.
Bride and Groom Portraits at La Fonda Santa Fe:
After their deeply personal vows, Shelby and Josh made their way to the bridal suite at La Fonda to have a moment alone before we took to their upper terrace for some golden hour portraits. We leaned on the classic New Mexico architecture (and of course the sun peeking through the storm clouds) as our backdrop for some truly chic and romantic bride and groom portraits. The couple in black and white against the adobe lines just feels so timeless, and their chemistry is unmistakable. I’m absolutely obsessed with these two.
The sunset photos back down on the lower terrace, in front of the Cathedral, we took during the ceremony to take advantage of that perfect lighting. There are only a few moments where the cathedral is lit up like that, so knowing when that happens and being ready to run out for those sunset photos is essential and worth it!
La Fonda on the Plaza Wedding Reception:
The details for Shelby and Josh’s wedding reception at La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe were again classic, with black and white table numbers and place cards, tall white candles, and simple greenery with white floral centerpieces. The La Terraza reception hall is itself just a gorgeous and classic wedding venue, with its Santa Fe architecture and giant walls of glass on three sides. The couple opted for an assortment of desserts all done by Chocolate Maven Bakery and Cafe of Santa Fe.
After a long and beautiful day celebrating their love, everyone was ready to let loose during their reception. Cutmaster Music absolutely killed it as their DJ for the rest of the night, as always.
What a day!
