Grace and Carey loved the idea of eloping in the mountains, but also wanted to celebrate their union with a big party. They ended up planning their wedding ceremony at the UNM Alumni Chapel, with their reception for 130 guests at Grace’s childhood home at her parents’ house. Grace’s dad invested months ahead of the wedding upping his garden game, so it really felt like a lush spring oasis with all the blooming flowers of spring. They had catering set up in their kitchen, opened their house to all their guests, and really made everyone feel at home. Despite the large group, they managed their day on a budget and it still felt intimate. A perfect balance.
UNM Alumni Chapel Wedding Ceremony
This may be my favorite place for a church wedding in Albuquerque. The UNM Alumni Chapel is small and sweet, but it can fit lots of people in a cozy way.

Wedding Pictures in the Albuquerque Foothills
Between the chapel wedding ceremony and backyard wedding reception, we made a pit stop in the foothills of Albuquerque for some wedding portraits. Grace and Carey really wanted to include an iconic New Mexico look for some of their pictures, and brought along their immediate families to enjoy the views and have their portraits done with them as well.

Vibrant Backyard Wedding Reception
Vibrant is the word I’d use to describe this backyard wedding reception for Grace and Carey. Everywhere you looked there were flowers blooming in the lush gardens, with more flowers of all colors on top of all the tables. More bright flowers decorated the wedding cake, and brightly colored food and napkins, making for festive May wedding decor. There was even a Mexican pinata hanging above the dance floor, a treat for all the children in attendance.

I loved how Grace and Carey included so many personal details, and created a cozy world for so many people in their lives to celebrate their wedding day with them. One of my favorite backyard weddings yet!
