Lily and Stephen wanted a true New Mexico adventure session to capture their engagement portraits. What better place to wander and admire the beauty of the southwest than Abiquiu, New Mexico? Abiquiu is full of iconic red rocks and distant mountain views. We wandered up my favorite trail, taking in the special magic of the desert, and then made it over to Abiquiu Lake for the final moments of golden hour and sunset. The fact that these two vastly different scenes exist within just a few minutes of each other is one of my favorite parts about shooting a desert engagement in Abiquiu.
I always like to have my couples wear a couple different outfit options for their engagement sessions. One fancier option, and another more casual option. For her fancier option Lily wore a flowy blue dress that danced around in the desert wind. It was the perfect contrast against the Abiquiu red rocks and orange dirt. Her casual outfit was jeans and a white blouse, simultaneously chic and laid back. Stephen wore button-up shirts to complement his bride and brought along a Pendleton blanket. Pendleton is special not only because of its perfect southwest style for engagement photos, but also because Stephen happens to work for them. He even threw in a Pendleton button-up shirt at the end for good measure. ;) Together, they make a stunning couple.
It is my favorite thing to take my couples out with me to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, and capture portraits that embrace not only their love for one another, but their love for adventure and landscape as well.
