Kyle and Kristine are a super fun, goofy, and outdoorsy couple. Their Winter Park wedding day was full of laughter and wild dancing, and of course stunning mountain scenery. We hopped between their Winter Park wedding venue at Headwaters Center and a lovely spot with wildflowers and unimpeded mountain views off the grid near Berthoud Pass for photos. I always love to scope out scenic locations near a wedding venue to give my couples more options for their photos. If the schedule allows, it is always worth a little trip further into the mountains for some epic views!
Getting Ready
I briefly met up with Kristine and Kyle as they wrapped up getting ready in separate condos down the road from their wedding venue in Winter Park. It’s always nice to have at least a few photos from this part of the day because you can feel the excitement and anticipation, and it’s like the prologue to the story of the day.
First Look in the Mountains
When you get married in Winter Park you have to take advantage of the scenery! When everyone was ready, we headed out to a lovely little private spot in the mountains for Kristine and Kyle to have their first look. I know sometimes the first look can feel a little staged but it is always a sweet moment to have together before getting lost in the rest of the wedding day. Plus, you can still put your personality into it–as you can see with Kyle literally hopping around to see his beautiful bride.
Kristine was truly stunning in her wedding dress with the lace bodice and long, flowy train.
Mountain Wedding Photos at Berthoud Pass
After the bride and groom had their sweet and silly first look, we took full advantage of our scenic spot in the mountains. We did the full wedding party photos and the immediate family photos all at this location and it could not have been more perfect. The bridesmaids wore light sage colored dresses perfect for summer, and the groomsmen wore navy suits with neutral bowties for a complementary color palette. The flowers were a simple but lovely mix of greens, white roses, and pops of blue flowers.
This group was GOOFY and gave me some of my favorite wedding party photos I’ve had the pleasure of taking.
Outdoor Ceremony at Headwaters Center
Kristine and Kyle’s unplugged wedding ceremony emanated pure joy, with smiles across literally everyone’s faces. The wedding party danced together up and down the aisle, and the two flower men did an exceptional job scattering their flower petals. When the newlyweds had their first kiss everyone erupted in cheers.
Winter Park Wedding Details
Kristine and Kyle did an amazing job infusing their wedding details with their fun and adventurous loving personalities. Their seating chart featured an aerial view of snowy ski runs down a mountain, and they named each table after a favorite ski run. A family member created the table names for the center pieces, so each table had a little wooden mountain peak with the run name on it. The mountain piece for the head table even featured a tiny little cable car. So cute!! The rest of the table decor was simple, with sprigs of pine and small vases of roses and eucalyptus to match the bouquets. The cake topper was a silhouette of a bride and groom riding a bicycle, yet another homage to the couple’s spirits and favorite activities.
Indoor Reception at Headwaters Center
Just as everyone headed inside for dinner, the cloudy sky finally opened up and began to rain. As the sun began to go down I thought we might be out of luck for sunset photos. BUT THEN…the rain cleared and a double rainbow appeared over the back deck. It couldn’t have had more perfect timing. After I pulled the newlyweds out for a few more sunset photos with the rainbow (of course!) the party carried on.
The ballroom at Headwaters Center is iconic, with high ceilings, big chandeliers, and a giant cabin vibe. There was plenty of room for this active bunch to dance the night away. Kristine and Kyle’s first dance was silly and sweet, a quality that seemed to describe their whole wedding day.
