Leah and Cody met way back in high school, and they’ve been friends for basically forever, but it wasn’t until working closely together a few years ago that they actually started dating. I suppose when you literally spend 24 hours a day with a certain person, you’re bound to either get totally sick of them, or find out that you’re true soulmates. Now they live together in a beautiful house that sits at the rim of the Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls, Idaho, and it was only fitting to have everyone they loved come to them to celebrate their wedding.
This wedding was a particularly special one for me to photograph because it involved so many people I’ve known and loved since high school myself. My husband happens to be one of Leah’s best friends, and stood beside her as her Man of Honor. (Or Bridesman, whatever you want to call it ;)) Much of the wedding party are friends we’ve been hanging out with since high school or the early days of college.
Each and every person in Leah and Cody’s wedding party holds their own special part in their lives. They had a slew of flower girls, all the children of friends attending the wedding. Two of their best friends were the co-officiants for the wedding ceremony. I absolutely LOVE when the officiant for a wedding is someone special to the couple, because that means the entire ceremony can be personalized. Leah and Cody’s ceremony was full of anecdotes about how the two of them met, started working together, fell in love, and finally decided to get married. Leah’s mom and brother, both amazing musicians, performed original music. There was laughing. There was crying. I know I’m biased—but it was one of my favorite ceremonies I’ve ever witnessed.
I should also mention that this wedding party was absolutely wild. My favorite wedding parties are those who are ready to have a good time for photos, and these guys took it to a whole new level. I’ve got so many outtakes from these guys. Like, SO MANY. I was literally LOLing in the airport as I skimmed through all their photos on our way back home.
We all gathered at Leah and Cody’s house to do their first look and take all the portraits before the ceremony and festivities took place. Not many people can say they literally live on the edge of a canyon and have views like this from their backyard, but they can! I walked out onto their deck a few days before the big day, took one look and said, “Yeah, this’ll do for photos.” LIKE UM OKAY SURE. I told them they could start up a side business as a Twin Falls wedding venue if they really wanted to because those Snake River Canyon views have me dead.
After we took pictures (and tossed a couple watermelons over the side of the cliff to watch them explode at the bottom in celebration) we all took off to the wedding venue at 360 Main Event, where a hundred of Leah and Cody’s friends and family gathered to witness their vows to each other and literally party the night away. The venue is an adorable, rustic space with exposed brick and hung string lights.
It was truly such a special time getting to see the life our friends have made for themselves in cute little Twin Falls, Idaho, and I’m just so honored that I could be the photographer for their special day.
