Jessica and Marty’s Black Diamond Gardens wedding was the most perfect kick-off for my wedding season this year, and the most perfect spring day for a wedding in Washington. The skies were overcast, but every once in a while the sun would gleam out in all its glory. They went for a theme of simple, rustic elegance. The ceremony took place outside on the grass, at a wooden altar, while the reception was set inside the greenhouse. Tables were lined with greenery and tan and white linens. Simple but lovely pops of white and pink flowers and gold lanterns and votive candle holders decorated both spaces. Guests were welcome to wander about the gardens, and it truly felt like the most perfect, beautiful, intimate affair where family could reconnect and celebrate in their love for the bride and groom.
Jess and Marty met on a dating app. (Can I just say, I actually love how many couples I have encountered who have met this way. This is how 21st century love stories begin!) Marty was the first and only guy Jess agreed to meet up with. After a first date of shopping at Target and a second date including dinner and a movie, the rest is history. They have two cute pups together who I got to meet at their engagement session in North Bend, and on New Year’s Day, high in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, Marty proposed to Jess in the snow.
My favorite part of weddings is getting to hear all the stories about the couple told from their family and friends. Jess and Marty had several people stand up to speak during dinner at their reception, and their officiant too had so many kind words to say about the happy couple. Over and over, everyone talked about how well they are suited for one another, and how easily they fit into each other’s families.
Their wedding day was everything they dreamed of. Jess looked positively STUNNING in her silk and lace Claire Pettibone gown, fitted perfectly to her. The back of that dress made everyone’s jaws drop. Her bridesmaids wore sparkling gold dresses and carried colorful bouquets with pops of pink and sunflowers. The groomsmen kept it classy with gray suits and matching gold ties, with their own pops of fuschia boutonnieres. But most importantly, they laughed and cried and thoroughly enjoyed their day with all their loved ones.

Describe your wedding day in your own words.
Absolutely perfect. By far the best day I have ever experienced. Immense joy was the feeling the entire time. We allowed seeing all of our friends and family enjoying themselves to the fullest. Getting ready with my bridesmaids was the best way to start and ending at a casino watching an all girl band made the night just perfect.
What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?
Give yourself time. You want to really enjoy yourself and take in every moment. Plan time to do just that. Savor every piece of that special once in a lifetime day.
