Mismatched wedding party walking across the road surrounded by mountains at Glacier Club wedding in Durango Colorado

You absolutely cannot go wrong with having a wedding in Durango, Colorado. The San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado are some of the most stark and gorgeous in the entire country. McKenzie and Casey chose to have a Glacier Club wedding just north of town in Durango, and it was absolutely perfect.

McKenzie and Casey are my favorite types of go-with-the-flow couples who mainly just wanted to enjoy their day together. They were up for anything when it came to photos, whether it was me grabbing them during the five minutes of actual sunlight we got, or making them walk across the road with their wedding party fifteen times. Their daughter was a big part of the day, joining in for part of the ceremony and the dancing, and often quite frankly just stealing the show in the sweetest way.

Getting Ready + First Look

McKenzie got ready with her bridesmaids in one of the condos onsite at Glacier Club. They drank mimosas and did their makeup in mismatched floral robes. As soon as McKenzie got into her dress, she was ready to see her man.

So, for their first look I set Casey up right outside the condo next to some trees. We wanted to make it no frills, no fuss, so that they could focus most of the day on being together and get right into taking photos with the whole wedding party. McKenzie walked right out of the condo and tapped Casey on the shoulder to turn around. For a guy who doesn’t seem to get emotional very often, the look on Casey’s face was priceless.

The Details

The color palette for the day was a mixture of blush feminine details and bold pops of burgundy, mustard, and olive green. The bridesmaids wore mismatched, floor-length velvet dresses in all of the above colors and it worked in such a unique and classy way.

McKenzie’s bouquet was a giant and wild mix of roses, peonies, wildflowers, and berries, in another blast of color. Each bridesmaid had a smaller bouquet to match, with ribbons complementing their dresses.

The reception decor had the lighter vibes. Soft pink florals and greenery adorned the cake and dessert table, the seating chart had lovely watercolor floral details, and each table was set with baby’s breath, twinkle lights in bottles, and an assortment of local honeys as favors.

The Ceremony

When you get married in Durango, it’s almost a requirement to have your ceremony outdoors. You’ve got to take advantage of all that natural beauty around! It was important to McKenzie and Casey that we really embrace the location–and if you know me at all, you know I agree. They said their I dos out on the lawn, surrounded by the trees and mountains.
