Micaela and Brack are both chiropractors, so I guess you could say they are a very well-aligned couple. Badum-kish!
Seriously though, these two met during school, dated so long their family started to wonder if they would ever get married, and even started a practice together before planning to tie the knot. They finally got married on the second official day of summer, but you wouldn’t know it based on the weather. All day, thunderstorms rolled through Colorado with a wind chill that made it feel like it might actually be February. They say rain on your wedding day is lucky, but usually they aren’t talking about plans getting totally rained out.
Thankfully, Micaela and Brack were incredibly laid back and ready to roll with the punches. Though they had dreamed of their ceremony taking place outside in the garden of Washington Park in Denver, they instead had it set up under cover within the boathouse, where the reception was also to take place. Though Micaela’s A&Bé wedding dress was etched with little sunbursts all over to celebrate the summer solstice, those were the only signs of sunshine on an otherwise moody, gray day.
But there were silver linings: During a break in the rain, we dashed outside for their first look on the water of Smith Lake, and were able to take all of their portraits before it began to drizzle again. The new ceremony site was quite lovely, with twinkle lights and a view over Smith Lake. There was overall a feeling of comradery. In the face of the wind and the rain and the cold, everyone grabbed their jackets, shared their extra sweaters, and cuddled together to celebrate the happy couple no matter the circumstances.
During his emotional toast to his daughter, Micaela’s dad mentioned how prepared they were for a hot summer day—ready with fans for each guest and icy drinks at the bar—yet Mother Nature had other plans. And that’s life. And that’s marriage. Things don’t always go according to plan, but you make do with what you get.
By the end of the night, the weather had calmed and everyone warmed themselves up from some intense dancing. The first time Micaela and I spoke, she made it clear that above all, she and Brack didn’t want cheesy wedding photos, but rather photos of them laughing and having the best day of their lives with their friends. All in all, I’d say that goal was a success.
