Laura and Kevin have been planning their Jefferson Street Mansion wedding in Benicia, California, for a long time. It is always surreal and exciting to see your special day finally unfold before your eyes after spending so many months planning and anticipating. But what was most beautiful about witnessing these two on their wedding day was how absolutely happy they were to be there together, celebrating their union in front of all their family and friends.
I have actually known this couple for a very long time. See, Kevin is one of my high school best friend’s brother, and he and Laura have been together for years now. She became a part of their family long before they got engaged. So when they asked me to be their wedding photographer, I was completely touched, and excited for the chance to get to hang out with their families all weekend.
It was so fun to watch these two families come together to celebrate Kevin and Laura. You know people are having a blast when the dance floor is full all night and people don’t really start leaving until the music is shut off.
The Jefferson Street Mansion is a gorgeous wedding venue for anyone wanting a classic wedding, particularly in the spring. Inside the mansion are extravagantly decorated Victorian-style rooms, and outside is a pristine landscape of palm trees, grass, and wisteria vines. Although the wisteria had just finished blooming by Kevin and Laura’s wedding day, the lush green vines were a gorgeous accent to the wooden lattice arch over the ceremony site. And we still found a spot with the few remaining wisteria blooms to satisfy their dream of including those purple flowers. ;)
The décor was largely purple, an homage to the season of wisteria blooms. Each guest received a handmade, laser-etched wooden place card made by Kevin’s mom. It was all simple and elegant and perfect. And what no one could deny was how excited these two were to be celebrating this day together and with all their beloved family and friends.
This was my first California wedding, and it could not have been more perfect.
