Madison and Robbie met in a college study group. They had an instant connection, and the next ten years of their lives together led to their sweet, intimate Hearth House Venue wedding celebration in Monument, Colorado. They wanted to keep it simple, elegant, and small, with only their closest family and friends present.
All of the wedding décor was DIY. They had an Instax camera guest book at the entrance, old photos of the happy couple throughout the years on display, with rustic bottles and flowers mixed with candles and twinkle lights everywhere you looked. Madison collected the bottles and vases from work, the dollar store, and Goodwill. They purchased the flowers wholesale, and family helped to arrange everything just so. The clean, elegant beauty of the Hearth House Venue itself, with exposed wooden beams in the ceiling and piped shelving, of course helped tie the whole look together. “My vision was really simple, using flowers and candle light to fill in all the blanks but mostly allowing the simplicity and beauty of the venue stand out,” Madison said.
Finally, they had a jungle-themed wedding cake topped with a King Kong figurine holding Fay Wray, depicted as Madison. It was truly one of the most unique cakes I’ve ever seen, and seemed to be a perfect homage to their trip to Hawaii where Robbie proposed, and where many of their displayed photos together were taken
The fact that Madison and Robbie’s wedding was so simple made their focus on the moments that much more important. They cared less about the “perfect” wedding with all the typical posed photo ops and more about the time they were sharing with those special enough to be present there with them. When Madison made her entrance in her beautiful bell-sleeved Art Deco gown at the wedding ceremony, both she and Robbie instantly teared up. She told me later that was her favorite moment of the day, just seeing her husband’s reaction to seeing her as they were about to say their vows.
“It flew by like a storm and it was the loveliest day I could imagine. Being surrounded by folks who wanted to share this moment with us was so humbling and precious. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
They spent their reception in a haze of happy moments, sharing their first dance with all their guests, and trading off dancing with their parents and friends throughout the evening. It was all so unscripted, so lovely and moving.
When I asked her my typical question, what is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be? She responded, “Don’t stress anything. It all works out and then it’s over and all you have are the happy memories you created.”
