Amber and Rory got engaged at the Salish Lodge at the Snoqualmie Falls, so it came to no surprise that they wanted to return there with me for their engagement portraits. As we walked around the falls and the lodge, I kept feeling that nervous, excited energy they must have both been filled with the last time they were there. I could just imagine it all: Rory taking Amber out to Snoqualmie for her birthday weekend, them enjoying hikes and massages and fancy dinners beside the waterfall, him getting down on one knee to propose, them celebrating with champagne and a room full of rose petals. It’s all so very romantic.
When one of the Salish employees learned that we were taking engagement photos around the lodge, he asked us if we’d like to see his favorite spot for some photos. He led us up to a private little conference room with a small balcony overlooking the falls and the mountains beyond. That man deserves a raise, because if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have some of my favorite shots of the night there!
After we finished our loop around the Salish Lodge and Snoqualmie Falls, I suggested we head out to North Bend to catch the golden hour there. Amber had told me that she wanted to be able to show off the natural beauty of Washington to their friends and family back home in Toronto, and I knew just the spot where we could get some great mountain views. We had the park to ourselves as the sun dipped below the horizon and set Mount Si in a beautiful purple. I can’t think of a better way to show off Washington’s beauty, or the joy and romance between Amber and Rory in their engagement. Congratulations again to the happy couple! It is an honor to be your photographer.
