Downtown Seattle Engagement Portraits | SoMin & James

Downtown Seattle Engagement Portraits | SoMin & James

The entire week leading up to SoMin and James’s engagement session, the forecast for the day looked ominous. It rained the whole morning, so I shot SoMin a text making sure we were still on in spite of the possible weather, and I showed up with an umbrella, speedlight, and rain cover for my camera, ready for anything. I figured, hey, we’ll make it part of the theme. Downtown Seattle locations coupled with some cool rainy shots—it’ll be wet, but it’ll still be a perfect Seattle engagement session! Only by the time I had crossed Lake Washington into the city, the clouds had parted and the sun was shining on the waterfront. I could even shrug off my jacket! (Do you sense a pattern here with these recent sessions? Seattle weather, man, it’s got mood swings!)

So, of course, we embraced the happy change! We met up under the Pike Place Market sign, wandered through the market, and made our way to my favorite pier overlooking the waterfront, sun smiling down on us the whole time. After we had our fill of downtown spots, we headed over to Kerry Park for a different vantage point of the iconic Seattle skyline. SoMin and James wanted a very Seattle-like engagement session, and I’d say they got it! We had so much fun walking around, enjoying the signs of spring, and recording these moments in their engagement. They are getting married in Korea, and I am so happy that I can provide them with these images to display at their wedding and gift to their family before they say their I dos. At the end, SoMin even made sure we got a picture taken of the three of us. Such a sweetheart! I think I need to make that a new tradition!!

One part of our conversation will always stick with me. SoMin casually asked me, “Do you like being married?”

I told her, without thinking about it, “Yes, it’s so much FUN!” Because it really is. You get to do life with your best friend! Yes, you may sometimes have to fight over the remote or how to load the dishwasher, but that’s all part of the adventure. So believe me when I say again, SoMin, and anyone else wondering whether being married can really feel like a fun adventure, it is so much fun. And your wedding day is just the very start of it.
