A while back, Ankita and Subhadip’s parents wanted to set them up together, but they resisted, neither one wanting a relationship at the time. Years passed until, through the magic of Facebook, the two connected and began fulfilling their parents’ dreams. They both ended up moving to Seattle at different times, and now are just beginning the rest of their lives together.
They’re an artistic couple. Subhadip loves photography and we talked cameras as we walked around the dewy grass at Volunteer Park. Ankita is a poet—something I can relate to as well, being a writer on the side myself. The two dressed to the nines for their engagement portraits. My kind of people! Ankita’s billowing red dress drew the eyes and compliments of every stranger who passed by.
We started in the early morning at Volunteer Park. It was on the cusp of winter. We found a lone tree still lit with color and featured it in several shots. Rain clouds threatened the day but held off until later in the afternoon, and we were blessed with brief pops of sunlight. With each ray that shone through the clouds we dashed into the light for some beautiful backlit portraits. Eventually we headed down near Pike Place Market, walking Post Alley and over to a park overlooking the water. We finished off the morning with some coffee from the first Starbucks. Ankita was definitely the best dressed in their establishment that morning!
Before their session, Ankita had mentioned to me that they were looking for some timeless, classic portraits they’d want to blow up into big prints for their walls. She told me she wanted to capture their emotion, and bring out their love of color and make it into “something that would be like stealing some moments in the whole chaos of things.” I love when my clients share with me their visions like this—no matter how vague, how silly, or how obvious they might seem!
Ankita & Subhadip, I hope I created the art you envisioned. It was so much fun making it with you!
