Taos Wedding at Hotel Luna Mystica | Mich & Ray

Bride and groom jumping for joy at the edge of the Rio Grande Gorge

Mich and Ray are not your typical bride and groom. They are the type of people who hike the PCT the month before their wedding, who plan a #trailerparkwedding, who want a jumping photo on the edge of a cliff, and have a whole bunch of friends who are just as brilliant and creative and outdoorsy as they are. This Taos wedding at Hotel Luna Mystica gave me so much life.

Getting Ready in the Trailers

Mich and Ray and their many friends and family members booked the whole property at Hotel Luna Mystica for the weekend of their wedding. It made for a very fun camping getaway vibe.

In Mich’s trailer, a friend helped her with her hair while another friend delved into Tarot cards. Mich donned a necklace with live succulents, made by yet another talented friend. In Ray’s trailer, everyone toasted to the couple with their cans of beer and Ray put on a bolo tie and navy suit.

Couples Portraits at the Rio Grande Gorge

Once Mich and Ray were each ready, they were off to have their first look up the road at the Rio Grande Gorge. If you’re having a Taos wedding, doing portraits at the gorge is basically a must. It is gorge-ous! You get sweeping 360-degree views of the mountains all around Taos, not to mention the canyon views with the river below.

Being the adventurers that they are, Mich and Ray wandered to the edge to look over the cliff and jumped for joy for a few photos.

Wedding Ceremony at Hotel Luna Mystica

The views of the mountains at Hotel Luna Mystica are stunning, and the vintage trailers are just a whole vibe. The wedding ceremony site is at the center of the property, with the mountain views straight ahead and trailers all around. Colorful Mexican flags hang around the edge, along with string lights. They kept the decor very simple, with just a few flowers among the camping chairs, letting the look of the venue do the heavy lifting. With the mountains being dappled with yellow, it was all very “fall” and very campy.

Mich and Ray stood at the altar with their best man and maid of honor, with Ray’s brother officiating. They didn’t have an official wedding party, but several friends contributed to the music and readings for their ceremony. They read each other personal vows, bringing the whole campsite to tears. After their first kiss, the two literally danced back up the aisle together as everyone blew bubbles, and it was just about the cutest thing ever.

Dinner Reception at Love Apple

After an informal cocktail hour at the campsite, everyone hopped on a shuttle into town to have dinner at Love Apple. This restaurant is so cozy and cute, with just the perfect mix of northern New Mexico flair. The tables were lined with candles in wine bottles and fall flowers. A fire crackled outside, where the chairs were draped with woven blankets. A long line of friends made personal toasts to the bride and groom as the sun set. I could see the sky lighting up above us, and dashed outside for a few final sunset portraits with the newlyweds.

Dance Party at Hotel Luna Mystica

After dinner, everyone headed back to the campsite to get ready for a night of dancing under the tent. There is nothing like a live band to keep a party going, and everyone stayed up late into the night kicking up dust. Perk of having your wedding reception at your trailer park wedding campsite: everyone can just stumble home to their trailers when they’re done partying. ;)
