Summer Mountain Wedding at the Lodge at Breckenridge | Ashley & Cassie

A super fun-loving and adventurous couple, Ashley and Cassie brought their closest friends and family out from Texas to enjoy a weekend in the mountains of Colorado for their intimate summer wedding. The Lodge at Breckenridge is a perfect venue for a small summer wedding. Tucked right between the town of Breckenridge and the mountains, there are so many adventures right at your fingertips. These two kept their details simple and meaningful, and I just loved the moments they created.

Love Story

First thing you need to know–Ashley and Cassie have the sweetest love story. They met back in 2014, when Cassie’s younger sister was going through treatment for leukemia. Ashley was her nurse. They spent a lot of time together as Cassie was always by her sister’s side through her treatment, and then they kept in touch long after treatment. Eventually, finally, they had their first date. And the rest is history. Ashley told me that there was a special connection she felt with Cassie that she had never felt with anyone else before.

First Touch

Ashley and Cassie wanted to keep the tradition of not seeing each other before their wedding ceremony, but still be able to have a moment alone together to read their personal vows to each other. I arranged them back to back on a private deck at the Lodge at Breckenridge, so that they could hold hands and read aloud, without ruining the element of surprise.

There is some finesse to creating a moment like this (like having Cassie led into place while blindfolded) but it was so beautiful and moving, I hope it’s something I get to see more and more couples try. As they read their vows to each other, each starting to cry, it was so hard for them to not turn around. But they held strong and the payoff was another very sweet moment at the ceremony.

The Ceremony

The ceremony spot at the Lodge at Breckenridge is absolutely stunning, with sweeping views of the mountains everywhere you look. Cassie’s sister, the reason these two met, carried a sign up the aisle to honor this sweet beginning. As Ashley followed behind with her father, Cassie couldn’t hold back tears. Their ceremony was a moving mixture of silly laughter and emotional tears. At the end, they could hardly wait for their first kiss, and everyone cheered the new wives for life waving rainbow flags.

The Details

Ashley and Cassie kept their wedding decor super minimal, but the theme was clear: rainbow flags for a lesbian wedding, feminine floral touches, and toss in a few fun things like custom beer koozies, glow sticks, and signature cocktails. I loved their outfits–a white pantsuit with pink bowtie to complement a simple yet elegant lace bridal gown. They looked amazing and were ready for anything. The whole idea for their weekend was just good mountain fun.

Couples Photos in Boreas Pass

Before getting into dinner and dancing, I took the newlyweds up the road into Boreas Pass for some different Breckenridge wedding photos. When you’re getting married at a venue like this, it is always worth a little drive further into the mountains for some more epic scenery. For Ashley and Cassie specifically, they knew they really wanted some gorgeous scenic couples photos in the mountains. After all, you can’t get views like this in Texas! These photos were all taken within ten minutes of the Lodge at Breckenridge!

The Reception

For a small wedding, this group was wild and down to party. Cassie’s enthusiasm for dancing was infectious, and I’ve never felt so welcomed by a group of strangers as I did with the people here. Their wedding reception was SO FUN.
