You don’t generally wish for a stormy summer wedding day, but this day at Cordera in Colorado Springs was one for the books.
The weather in Colorado is notoriously unpredictable. In the summers you can expect thunderstorms on a regular basis, but you can’t really expect when they will actually hit. Sometimes the rain comes out of nowhere. Sometimes it’s in the forecast and all you see are sunny skies. Sometimes, you even get rain and thunder while the sun still shines. One thing that is usually the case though is that the storms blow through, giving you a big show but not sticking around for very long.
All of this was running through our minds as the skies grew dark and opened up right before Lauren and Beau’s wedding ceremony was supposed to start. We decided to wait it out, delaying the ceremony and the entire schedule for the day by at least half an hour, in the hopes that they could still get married outside with a view of the mountains rather than inside surrounded by reception tables.
And you know what? It totally paid off. The clouds parted, the chairs got wiped down and we saw Lauren and Beau say their vows in the sunshine. We had to tweak the timeline to make up for it but THIS is why you hire wedding vendors who have your best interest at heart and can make your dreams happen. Well, that, and also why you pray to the weather gods a little bit too. ;)
All inclement weather aside, this day was perfect. Lauren and Beau’s rustic wedding details, like their custom engraved wood photo at the cake table, biodegradable flatware, and simple green and white florals, all complemented the laid-back vibe of the day and the weather perfectly. And the couple themselves were so full of life and love, no amount of rain could bring them down. In fact, it even brought them rainbows.
