early winter Santa Fe mountain engagement photos

The forecast for the day of Mira and Ed’s Santa Fe mountain engagement session looked grim—like, dead-of-winter-in-Seattle grim, which is enough to make most New Mexicans hide in bed all day—but these two were entirely unfazed.

They told me that there is something rather special to them about the rain. The day they got engaged in Arizona, the monsoons hit hard, and it poured on them then, too. It’s like the desert is trying to give them a sign. At this point they joke that they will actually be disappointed if it doesn’t rain on their wedding day. I mean, they say it’s good luck, right?

After wandering around a bit, and taking in the chilly, wet fall air, we decided to head further up the road into the Santa Fe mountains to see if we could find some snow. Because you know when it’s raining at the base of a mountain, it’s likely to be snowing up at the top! What we found was the most gorgeous view of a fresh blanket of snow covering the still-yellow aspens. One of my absolute favorite types of landscape is when you can see fall meet winter, and the changing autumn leaves stand out against the white of the first snow. I had to work hard to contain myself seeing these views in person. It was stunningly gorgeous.

We were all amazed and excited that in just a couple of hours, we experienced two seasons and several types of weather. Mira and Ed’s joyful energy just emanated from them all afternoon, so even despite the cold and the wet, nothing could damper the warmth of their love. Their smiles are so contagious, you can’t not enjoy yourself around them. I just love that they can embrace whatever inclement weather comes their way, and make it something beautiful.

These are my type of people. Happy, positive, unafraid souls, ready to face anything as long as it’s together. Their wedding day is a ways off, but I just know the time will fly by, and I cannot wait to see how their forever unfolds.
