Old Town Albuquerque Family Portraits | The Burkhards

Sometimes, it takes a few tries to nail down a time for everyone in a family to get together for a photo session. I mean, it’s hard enough these days coordinating schedules between multiple busy people. Tack on the fact that everyone has to coordinate clothing choices AND feel presentable for the camera? It’s no easy task!

I was so glad that I was finally able to get the Burkhards in front of my camera while I was home in Albuquerque for the holidays. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing this family for quite a while now, and I’ve been dying to snap their family photos!

On the steps in Old Town Albuquerque.

It all started when Rachel began dating one of my best friends, Matt. Fast forward a year and I’m hanging out at Rachel’s house and eating with her parents like we’ve known each other for years. That’s my favorite thing about this family—Rachel, Lindsay, Melissa, Mark, and Ryan—they’ll make you feel like you’ve known them forever when you’ve just met, and they’ll open up their hearts to you like you’re one of the family. I just love them.

I knew Old Town Plaza would be the perfect backdrop for them, and when I found out their theme of black jackets and blue jeans, I admit I swooned a little. They’re picture perfect. We had a grand ole time taking up the stairways and the gazebo, finishing off the evening in front of the iconic cathedral.

We tossed Matt into the mix a few times, I snagged a few shots of Matt and Rachel alone, threw the siblings together, took mom and dad on their own. Basically, the whole gamut. But, of course! What else would you expect? ;) They were such fun, and helpful little assistants when not posing for me!

Perhaps my favorite outcome from this session is not the lovely photos I can pass on to them—though those, of course, are the most important—but the behind-the-scenes snapshots Mark took toward the end of the session. It shows the whole process—me, my models, an assistant helpfully blocking the sun from my shot. Would you ever know that this…

Thank you to the Burkhards for an evening of smiles and laughter. xoxo!
