Samantha and Jamie met working at a movie theater, where Sam was Jamie’s boss! After working together and getting to know each other for a few years, they started to realize there was a mutual interest. Jamie actually offered to quit his job so that they could date. What a guy!
Five years later, they went on a trip to the Grand Canyon to celebrate their anniversary. Little did Sam know what Jamie had in store for her; I think she (obviously) tells the story best:
“Before any big trip, he would always forewarn me that he’s not going to propose and that he doesn’t want me to get my hopes up. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise when he said it a few days before we left, but for the first time, I cried! On our first full day at the Grand Canyon we went on a seven mile hike. At the end he got down on one knee (pretending to dig through his pack) and pulled out a ring. He said, ‘I lied, I am going to propose to you at the Grand Canyon. Will you marry me?’ I managed to squeak out a lovingly meant “I hate you” (for the lie, you know…) and nodded while I stuck my hand out.”
The way Sam tells that story is a perfect depiction of their relationship. These two are so sweet together. Jamie loves to crack jokes and knows exactly how to make Sam laugh.
They planned a geometric-themed garden party for their wedding. It was modern and organic, with lots of greenery, white tablecloths, gold geometric shapes, and pops of lavender. They used elements of nature like wood rounds and leaves. The flowers on the tables were live, but the bouquets and boutonnieres were actually made of wood. The gold centerpieces, the bullet casing for the boutonnieres, and all of the signage were DIY. The invitations featured the lavender flair, with a decorative cover Sam and Jamie hand-cut into geometric patterns. Finally, they also created a chandelier of 400 paper cranes. More paper cranes sat within each geometric gold shape on the tables. It was the most beautiful combination of geometry and nature you could imagine. I absolutely love seeing unique visions like this pulled off so well by my couples! It’s a true testament to their creativity.
Even more important than the visual details, of course, is how a wedding day feels. And this one was so sweet. The ceremony was a highlight. Sam describes:
“From the moment I almost started bawling downstairs when the music started, my dad trying to make me laugh while he walked me down the aisle so I wouldn’t cry, the high five he gave Jamie when we reached the of the aisle, inviting our parents up to give us an extra blessing, to the moment I kissed my husband for the first time, it was all magic. Jamie’s mom, Mary, was our officiant, which added an extra special touch to the ceremony as well.”
It’s moments like these you’ll always want to remember from your wedding day. Those moments of extreme emotion and overwhelming love. The rest of the evening flowed so quickly, so easily, as Sam and Jamie made sure to greet each one of their guests, soak it all in, and dance the night away before running off into the sunset (and taking more pictures!)
When I asked Sam her advice for other brides to be, she told me:
“As many times as I heard, ‘it goes by quickly,’ I still thought that was bologna, but is so true! By the end of the day, you’ve just been through such a whirlwind and you’re left trying to remember every moment, every detail, and some of it such a blur.
Luckily, they have all these photos to be able to relive it all again, whenever they want.
