Leslie and Levi met three years ago in Australia, of all places. If that’s not a love story that makes you even a little bit envious, I don’t know what to say to you. Both of them were spending a year abroad and found each other through mutual friends. “You should meet this guy,” Leslie was told, “he’s from Washington, too.” The stars aligned, they met, instantly connected, and the rest is history. Not long after they returned to Washington, they got married, and here they are now expecting their first baby. It’s straight out of a storybook.
Kirkland, Washington, is very dear to Leslie and Levi’s hearts, as they now spend almost all of their time in this charming suburban city at the north end of Lake Washington. When you live, work, and play in one area long enough, it only makes sense that you would want the first documentation of your little one to be taken there too. Leslie had several special spots in mind for their maternity portraits, and when she suggested them I immediately responded with a wholehearted YES LET’S DO IT ALL. Because that’s just how I roll when someone has a list of so many amazing ideas. This is the first opportunity I’ve had to shoot in Kirkland, and I now think that I’ll suggest it as a portrait session location all the time, because it’s just that wonderful to walk around.
It was one of those days where the rain was coming and going every few minutes. We started at Lady Yum, an adorable macaron shop with the perfect brick wall. From there we walked to the Kirkland Marina and took over one of the docks as the rain clouds lit up from the setting sun. We finished off the evening at Juanita Bay Park just as the light was fading and the rain officially decided to chase us away.
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is connecting with the people I photograph, and turning clients into friends. We’re already planning to meet up again to explore a new restaurant and hang out, and I can’t wait to see these two warm, wonderful people become natural parents! Leslie and Levi, thank you for choosing me to capture these precious moments of your pregnancy. The honor is all mine.
