New Mexico is full of so many hidden gems for photo locations. One of my favorites is in and around Jemez. The Jemez red rocks in particular are truly iconic. As someone born and raised in the southwest, I’ve always been somewhat obsessed with the red rock formations you see here that you can’t find anywhere else.
My other favorite part about shooting in Jemez is that it’s actually quite close and convenient to get to from Albuquerque. Drive just about an hour out of town and you’ve got mountain views and red rocks galore. You’d almost think you made it all the way to Colorado, but you’ve still got that ethereal golden light unique to New Mexico. WIN.
This Jemez red rocks couples session with Charlotte and Ryan really reminded me of all that I love about the landscape in New Mexico. We basically took off on an adventure to find the red rocks, then explored the area until sunset. They were nervous (as most of my clients are) about feeling awkward and weird, but in the end we had a grand ol’ time. Making my couples swing around in circles a few times really helps break the ice, hahah.
Seriously though, these two are the cutest. Ryan looks at Charlotte like she is the only girl in the world. Charlotte’s laugh is contagious. We tromped through tumbleweeds and squinted into the sun and it was all so perfect. We agreed to come back again sometime for a hike. Only next time, we bring the dogs.
