When Taymah and Brittany arrived at Gas Works Park for their photo session with me, Brittany had no idea what Taymah had in store for her just a few minutes later. She thought she was walking into a casual portrait session set in front of Lake Union and the Seattle backdrop. The two of them were on vacation from Chicago for the week, so commemorating their time in Seattle together with a photo session seemed like the perfect romantic idea.

Little did she know…Taymah had filled me in on her plan to propose during the middle of their session, right there in front of the Seattle skyline. We schemed to have Brittany face the other way, unaware of Taymah dropping to her knee behind her. When she turned around, she could not believe what she saw. It took a few minutes for her to be ready to be back in front of the camera. Completely understandable!

The funniest part was, as we were walking around the park, before the proposal, Brittany told me she had seen and loved my last session at Gas Works—another surprise proposal. So, it seems like if you’re going to propose, Gas Works Park is the place to do it! It really is the most amazing backdrop.

Brittany and Taymah are such joyful, beautiful women with light spirits. When we first met, I felt completely at ease with them, and they seemed perfectly at ease in front of my camera! Having two people so ready to laugh together and exude such confidence with one another is a photographer’s dream. By the end of the evening, after Taymah had proposed and Brittany said yes, the air was full of their laughter. Brittany, still in shock, kept asking Taymah how she put all of this together, and joking that she wanted to wear something more casual but Taymah wouldn’t let her. And I’m glad for that, because that yellow skirt is to DIE FOR. *cue the heart eyes*

Taymah and Brittany, I am so happy for you two, and I’m so thankful that you had me be a part of your special day together here in Seattle. I can’t wait to see you two get married :)
