Ayesha and Nick live together in San Francisco, but have a deep love for Colorado. They hope to one day move to this beautiful state, but in the meantime they have been planning their Rocky Mountain wedding and engagement in Colorado.
For their engagement photos, it was important to them to really showcase the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. We were aiming for the whole gamut: dramatic mountain views, water somewhere in the scenery, and some fall colors. Rocky Mountain National Park ended up being the most ideal location to check off all of those boxes.
What some people may not realize about fall in Colorado is that sometimes it is a very short-lived season, and it can also be somewhat hard to predict the exact timing for the peak fall colors. In general, the higher elevation mountain areas experience their leaves changing first, with lower elevations to follow. Usually people plan their leaf peeping in the mountains somewhere in mid September through early October, but it helps to really watch the weather and be flexible. As soon as the first hard freeze or blizzard of the season hits, all of the leaves drop and turn brown, and fall is officially over.
We lucked out with absolutely perfect timing with both the weather and the peak fall colors. It was a beautiful, sunny, and warm fall day in early October, and the yellow aspens were in full swing. We wandered between the fields of Moraine Park, the trails around Endovalley and Fall River, and eventually made our way up Trail Ridge Road for sunset. We could not stop marveling at how beautiful it was everywhere you looked.
And that’s barely scratching the surface of all the places Rocky Mountain National Park has to offer. If you are craving a wide variety of stark mountain vistas, RMNP is the place to go. Seeing the mountain sides lit up by the yellow aspens is just the icing on the cake.
I cannot wait for the next mountain adventure with Ayesha and Nick, next time for their summer wedding in Breckenridge!
