Last summer I had the great pleasure of being able to finally shoot with Heather of Events by Heather & Ryan. I really owe her one, because as someone who is an intense fan of eighties pop culture—both movies and music—I straight up died when I walked in and saw the décor for this amazingly put together eighties-movie themed wedding at Edmonds Yacht Club.

Every table had a centerpiece composed of a clear container of buttery popcorn and an assortment of movie posters and fan art for each favorite eighties movie (and TV show). There was a table for The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Beetlejuice, Back to the Future, Gremlins, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Princess Bride, and Ghost Busters. That’s just off the top of my head. The wedding favors were classic mini bags of popcorn, each sealed with a label quoting one of these classic eighties movies. A couple of old film reels sat next to the beautiful white wedding cake atop a glittery, Hollywood-gold table runner, and cute signs listing parental guidance ratings and movie night rules decorated the walls. Eighties music reigned on the DJ’s playlist. Katy and Ryan seriously didn’t miss a single beat. Their homage to the eighties culture they clearly loved made my own heart go pitter-patter.

And obviously, and even more importantly, their day was so much fun! Caitlyn and Ryan are such a fun, laid-back couple, and it was so sweet to see them so excited to start their lives together, and involve Caitlyn’s adorable son Andrian so completely from their vows to their dances. It is so special just to see a couple pledging their life to one another, but to witness a little family unit of mother and son finally officially welcome a father unit into the fold—that is so moving. Every single speech addressed not only Caitlyn and Ryan and their love for each other, but the unique bond between Andrian and Ryan as well. So many sweet words, I couldn’t help but tear up!

One of my personal favorite parts of the day, though, was watching this new family of three do the dance to the “Day Oh” song by Harry Belafonte, from the famous scene in Beetlejuice. SLAYED me!

If you know me or my work by now, you know that I am a sucker for a well-executed theme. This one surely takes the cake. It was the perfect day from start to finish. Thank you to Heather & Ryan for having me shoot this stunning wedding at Edmonds Yacht Club with them!
