Heather and Dan met several years ago through Dan’s sister, and through a handful of moves they have been together six years now. When Dan proposed, they were standing above the clouds at Haleakala National Park in Maui. And as they plan their Seattle wedding, the wanted the perfect Seattle engagement session.
We could not have had a more perfect morning for Heather and Dan’s sunrise engagement portraits in West Seattle. While we met before the sun peeked over the horizon, and there was a definite chill in the air, the soft light and colors over Alki Beach and the city skyline made it totally worth it. There was a layer of fog covering the tops of the skyscrapers that glowed an unreal orange as the sun rose, creating the most romantic backdrop. I swear I felt like we had to be in a movie.
Heather and Dan are just the cutest together. You would never know that they were nervous to be in front of the camera! Every couple I photograph has a different vibe and I have to say, I think I’m in love with the classic-Hollywood, lifestyle-magazine-cover-couple vibe they give me. I mean, am I right or am I right?
As we drove around all the best little spots along the water in West Seattle we talked all about art and movies and family and getting married and falling in love. Dan is a fellow artist and made it so fun to bounce new ideas around for some fun, different portraits and poses I’ve never done or seen before. Heather mentioned to me prior to their session that she absolutely loves timeless, black-and-white photos, so I also made sure to take extra care when editing to give her exactly what she described. I’ve never delivered so many black and whites in a gallery, especially when the colors present were so beautiful, and yet it fit so perfectly, I love that she had me do it. They made my job so easy while at the same time challenged me to take it to that next level and together we all created one of my very favorite engagement sessions to date.
