I met Amber and Ravi at a Bollywood Thriller Halloween event last year, where they won the costume contest with their classic portrayal of Sandy and Danny from Grease. Their prize? An engagement session with me! From the moment I met this cool, good-looking couple, and witnessed them dancing up on the stage together, I knew that they would be super fun in front of the camera, and when I saw that my prize was the one they won I can’t tell you how excited I was for their session.
They certainly did not disappoint. Amber wanted to bring some color and fun into their session, so we ultimately decided to try out colored smoke bombs. The colored smoke looked so cool blowing around them in front of the Seattle backdrop, I felt like we really must be on a movie set.
Gas Works Park is a perfect location for an engagement session if you’re looking for city views. I just love all of the greenery of the grass and bushes in the foreground, with the lake stretching out toward the skyline with the Space Needle on prominent display in the background. Add in all the yachts docked across the water, the Ballard Bridge, and sail boats and water planes going by, and you have yourself quite the picturesque little area.
We wandered all around the park, grabbing different views of the city and of the gas works, where the park got its name. We were blessed with a day of sunshine, giving us a real taste of the summer to come.
Amber and Ravi get married later this year in India, but I think their one-of-a-kind, quintessential Seattle engagement pictures will be the perfect way to share their lives here with all their family. I hope their pictures inspire you to make your own smoke bomb portraits, or insert something else special or creative into your next photo session!
