It was a hot, sticky Saturday afternoon in Oroville, Washington. Laura and Tim got ready in two different houses sitting on the Lake Osoyoos, just below the Canadian border. Laura’s room was in the corner of her grandmother’s house, and it overlooked the yard set with a giant white tent, decorated tables, and dozens of white chairs facing a giant white arch standing in front of the view of the water. Tim was down the hill at the neighbor’s, waiting for the moment his bride was ready to see him. Everyone was trading off the tasks of getting ready and watching their son toddle around the house.
When Laura finally put on the most beautiful white dress with a train fit for a princess, she headed outside to have her first look with her almost-husband. They met in a shady corner tucked away from the arriving guests, right next to an old wooden wagon topped with flowers and just steps away from a mini orchard with grape vines. It was the quaintest and most picturesque home property you could imagine.
We took their portraits by the grape vines overlooking the water, in what felt like a little oasis, far far away from any trouble in the outside world. Laura and Tim visit her grandparents here nearly once a month, as a way to get away from the hustle of Seattle and its suburbs. It was the most perfect spot for their wedding. After a sunny ceremony they spent the rest of their evening speaking to every person who made the trip out there to celebrate with them. The children dove into the backyard games and bubble makers. Everyone dove into the delicious barbeque meal.
Every single detail of their day was perfect. The burlap table liners were accented with pops of Tiffany blue and baby’s breath. The cake table overflowed with delectable mini pies, cupcakes, crumb bars, and Oreo cookies (just for their little ring-bearer) all sitting about the beautiful single-layer Tiffany-blue wedding cake with white flowers etched in frosting.
As the sun faded, the candles were lit, and the newlyweds bid their little boy good night, the music carried on and the dancing and merriment lasted far beyond when I left. Truly, it felt like I had entered some world only Shakespeare could have dreamed up, and it was such a privilege to be the one to record such a special time for this beautiful couple.
Congratulations to Laura and Tim!
