When you schedule an outdoor portrait session, you never exactly wish for rain. The clouds were not in our favor the day of Jaclyn and Vi’s session, but we went ahead with it anyway. They dressed up, I brought my trusty clear umbrella, and we wandered the slick streets of Seattle, drizzle and all. And you know what? It actually turned out pretty perfect.
Jaclyn and Vi are getting married in California, and they wanted their engagement pictures to really represent Seattle. What’s more Seattle than gloomy clouds spitting rain on you? We hit all the quintessential downtown spots: Pike Place, Post Alley, the Ferris wheel at the waterfront, Olympic Sculpture Park, Pier 66. We finished off outside the Crab Pot, which was where they had one of their very first dates. The light was disappearing, the neon signs shining brighter and brighter and reflecting on the puddles along the sidewalk. It was so perfect you would have thought we planned it all out like that. That’s just the fun of engagement sessions!
Another bonus of shooting in the city in the rain: less crowds! Sometimes shooting downtown can be super difficult because it is just so busy, it’s impossible to avoid strangers appearing in the back of each shot. But not this time! This time it felt like we practically had the city to ourselves.
I just love Jaclyn’s dresses and Vi’s suit. I love when my clients take the opportunity to dress up for their photos, and these two nailed. it. They also brought along their adorable pup for some of the shots, which if you know me at all you know I love that too!
Jaclyn and Vi, thank you for braving the wet weather with me. I hope you get only the best California weather for your wedding day.
xoxo
