Day Trip to North Bend, Washington

Day Trip to North Bend, Washington

Well, it is officially September, which means it is that special time of year when summer turns to fall and we get the best of both seasons. Whether you consider fall to start the day after Labor Day, or September 22, or just whenever the weather starts to change, doesn’t really matter, as long as you go forth and enjoy whatever season you’re in.

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite ways to spend a day off over the summer and on into fall. I hope that it will inspire you to get out and do the same in the next few weeks, before the late fall chill sets in.

When I’ve got a day off with my husband, I love taking the day to get outside and enjoy the nice weather and just relax. Heading east, away from Seattle and into the mountains, is the perfect getaway. We take a picnic and head to Rattlesnake Lake to beat the heat. When the sun dips below Rattlesnake Ledge we head out toward Three Forks Dog Park in Snoqualmie, but not before picking up some burgers and shakes at Dairy Freeze. Three Forks is one of the most beautiful parks, with an amazing view of Mount Si amid sprawling grassy fields. We watch the mountain change color as the sun sets, and finish off the day driving the back roads between Snoqualmie and North Bend to find the giant herds of elk that graze there at dusk in the fields, right off the roads.

If you’re looking for an even more active day, start off at the Snoqualmie Falls in the morning, and perhaps hike to the bottom if you want a different view. Or, frankly even better, take the hike to Rattlesnake Ledge before enjoying your time at the lake. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains from the top are incredible and well worth the 2-mile hike.

Both Snoqualmie and Washington have the cutest downtowns that will put you back in time. Walking around either town is another must when you are in the area. If you are in North Bend in the morning, don’t miss a visit to Georgia’s Bakery. They have the best cakey donuts and pastries that you’ll dream about long after enjoying them. Pair one with a drink from Pioneer Coffee and your morning is made.

We’ve been loving living so close to both these towns and becoming experts on the area. There is so much more to do that we haven’t even gotten to yet, but if you’re in need of a mini escape from bigger city life for a day, this is a great place to start. Let me know if you’ll be coming by, and I’ll see you there!
